you'll find excellent volunteer options for seniors who are ready
to give back to the community–and for anyone else who wants
to get involved with seniors.
Senior
Citizens, Inc.
Senior Citizens' wealth of local programs include the Retired and
Senior Volunteer Program, Friends Learning in Pairs, Phone Friends,
Foster Grandparents, Homemaker Service, Chore Service, Living at
Home Program, Telephone Reassurance, Friendly Visitors, Respite
Care Program, Victory over Crime, the Peer Counseling Program, and
Meals on Wheels.
Senior Companion
Program (SCP)
Serving adults needing extra assistance, Senior Companions reaches
out to adults who need extra assistance to live independently in
their own homes or communities. These volunteers provide companionship
and friendship to isolated or frail seniors, assist with simple
chores, provide transportation, and add richness to their clients'
lives.
National Association of Meal
Programs (Meals on Wheels)
Meals on Wheels offers quality nutrition services and programs.
Volunteers receive education, training, and development opportunities
for this important service.
Peace Corps
These volunteers make a two-year commitment in an underdeveloped
part of the world.
AmeriCorps/VISTA
Often known as the United States' domestic equivalent of the Peace
Corps.
American Cancer Society
The ACS site posts local events, activities and programs for volunteers
to joint the fight against cancer.
Ombudsman
Volunteer
These "ombudspeople" respond to complaints on behalf of residents
in long-term care facilities like nursing homes and assisted living
facilities.
AARP
A great source for a variety of programs, services, and advocacy
programs that help older Americans.
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired
Executives)
A resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration,
SCORE is comprised of older individuals offering technical assistance,
training and education to small business executives. This site provides
a wealth of articles, links, and other valuable information for
entrepreneurs.
